I don’t remember when Portishead’s album first came out but I was a fan back in late 90’s in the era of early Winamp. They were almost a cult band, releasing two great albums and one live performance from Roseland NYC. Fans eagerly awaited the third album, which eventually came out after more then ten years break, titled Third. Needless to say with those expectations, although a great album, the receptions was destined to be “It’s not like the first two”.
Portishead is a coastal town near Bristol, UK where the name got their name from. Bristol in early 90’s was a center of Trip Hop, emerging genre with bands such as Massive Attack coming to stage.
Why the trio Portishead sounds so unique, with the dark, moody and weird sounds and beautiful voice of Beth Gibbons? While listening live versions of the song, you really feel all the emotions. I recommend you listening this band and going back to different times.
